Excellent post, Steven. One thing I'd add would be a slightly more
desciptive name for the .exe's in steps 11 & 12 and include the links to
download the KBs. Then you'd have a *useful* MS Knowledge Base article
on manually installing any updates <w> :
KB935839 - XP [x86], XP [x64], Win 2K, Win 2K3 [x86], Win2K3 [x64]
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/r...DisplayLang=en
KB935840 - XP [x86], XP [x64], Win 2K, Win 2K3 [x86], Win2K3 [x64]
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/r...DisplayLang=en
11) go to your temp directory and run WindowsXXXX-KB935839-xXX-ENU.exe,
then reboot
12) do step 11 for WindowsXXXX-KB935840-xXX-ENU.exe ¹
¹ XXXX representing the Version of Windows installed
xXX representing either x86 or x64 version of Windows installed
ENU representing the Lanuage of the OS [in this case, English]
Mind if I publish this on my blog ?
