Failed update - Vista Service Pack 1

Error code 80070002 prevents me from installing update. Have followed listed
troubleshooting tips for deleting files & folders in the
"Windows/SoftwareDistribution" folder but still get the "failed update" error
window after rerunning Windows Update. Have also tried it after disabling my
anti-virus software but still no luck. Anyone have any other ideas?

Has the System Update Readiness Tool been run ?

If the tool hasn't been run yet, suggest you download it from the links

Then close all open programs and browsers prior to running it.

*** If the installed antivirus/security suite is the cause of the issue
then the tool may be able to resolve the issue. Or, if it does resolve
it, the issue may reappear due to the installed antivirus/security
suite. ***

The issue *may* also be related to a 3rd party firewall.
