I have added a new video card. An Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 with two connectors
for 2 monitors. Previously, built in was Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express
Chipset Family. WU keeps wanting to update the drivers for Intel, and the
updates fail, because those drivers are disabled. I have tried uninstalling
them, but on boot Windows keeps reinstalling them. If I enable them to allow
the update to run, I have no video. My question is two fold: 1. How do I get
rid of the tray icon, 2. How do I prevent windows from recognizing an update
is needed. My system is set for autoupdate. Thanks for the help, and if you
want to contact me directly, it's . Joe

Perhaps there is a disable option in the Bios?
and possibly a jumper on the mobo?

I checked with HP. There is no way to disable the video. The bios has been
changed by the Nvidia setup. The adapter pins are soldered onto the mobo and
there are no jumpers. I did find a work around. When the update shows up, I
clicked on details. This allowed me uncheck the Intel update. Another
window pops up asking if you want to see this update again. I've told it no.
Since then I have not received the update notification for the video driver
(Intel chipset) update. I don't think it's disabled all the updates, only
the Intel video drivers. My autoupdate feature is still activated.

Here is the reply I got from MS. It worked.

1. Go to Windows Update site
(http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp ) directly.
2. Click "Custom Install" to scan your system (Not Express Install) 3. After
finishing, please click "Select optional hardware updates" in the left pane.
4. Choose the driver update failed to be installed on the right pane and
check the box "Hide this update"
5. Restart the computer and this update should not be offered again.
