Failing Update

I'm trying to install the recent update to XP Home: Microsoft .NET Framework,
Version 1.1 Service Pack1 (KB886903) and after initializing and a couple of
seconds I get an error message to the effect of:
SL7F.tmp - common language runtime debugging services
process id=0xe1c (3612), thread id=0xel0 (3600)

The SL7F, process & thread id's change everytime I run it. Is this a bad
update or is there some sort of conflict on my PC? At this point I don't
know how to remove the offending downloaded fix, so the yellow warning shield
is always in the tray.

Any others experiencing the same problem?
