Fails to update, fix doesn't work

When trying to update it gives me an error that some services are not running
(0x8DDD0018). I have checked the services, restarted them, and it still does
not work. I have checked to make sure it wasn't a local issue, and I can
still get updates on my laptop, so it's not internet related. I attempted to
run with firewall off, no avail. I have compared services to my laptop, and
all is in order, but I still cannot update my windows. I can't even read the
"review your update history" to get the error log file!

I did run that check prior to posting this help request. All services seem to
be in working order. I flushed the log and attempted to perform an update,

Looks like it's checking and then returning that there are no updates, but
page returned from MS shows error and states services are not running. Still
need help!

Make sure that you have automatic updates turned on.

Make sure that the Remote Procedure Call Locator is not disabled:
Click Start, select Run and type in:
services.msc
Locate " Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator".
If it is disabled, then right click on it, go to 'Properties', change to 'manual' and
Apply.
Try Windows Update Again

Hi Anthony,

Are you running XP or Vista?

The most likely candidate for the issue in the first place
is the installed antivirus software.

Don't know what's installed on your system but, recommend it be
temp disabled when installing any subsequent security updates

REENABLE it after any required restart that finishes the installation
process.
