I've resolved my problems by downloading the .NET framework 2.0 from the MS
website (instead of using the windows updates service).
When I tried to install it that way, I obtained an error message saying I
should uninstall a couple of components from my machine (these were
components I got when I originally installed the .NET 2.0 beta framework,
back in the days of the VS 05 beta 2).
Once i uninstalled them, I was able to install the .NET framework without
errors.
