Failure to authenticate

After using the recovery disc's and trying to update my pc it was unable to
activate windows, saying i only have 30 days but when i click on the icon on
my bottom right hand screen a window pops up but does nothing but have a
background picture of a pair of keys. Because of this i cannot update my pc
to get SP2 or any other updates.
