Contact Adobe Support about your Adobe (Acrobat? Reader?) issues.

As for KB899589...

This appears to be a bug in the Windows Update detection logic. KB899589
should not be needed if WinXP SP3 was installed properly.

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Stop
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

2. Delete the contents of the Download folder:

Start > Run > (type in) %windir%\SoftwareDistribution > [OK]

Open the Download folder and delete its contents Close the window.

3. Go to Windows Update website > Select CUSTOM and allow the scan to
complete > Uncheck/deselect KB899589 and hide it ("Don't show me this update
again").

4. Start the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Start
(Starting the service will take a moment)

YW but it is not necessarily a good idea to follow instructions posted for
another user's machine.

I already have KB899589 as a hidden update. Should I restore KB899589 and
follow your procedure as listed below?

> Open the Download folder and delete its contents Close the window.

I have more than 1 folder in the download folder. By "Delete its contents",
you mean to delete only the KB899589 folder and its contents?

Serge

A1. Not necessarily, no.

A2. No.

If you have further questions, please begin a new thread, Serge.
