I have Windows xp Pro. the updates were working fine until last November. It
scans for the
update finds everything ok. I go to start the download get the agree box
then the download box and that is it.I have tried some suggestions without
success.
For examplesRe-registered the following files: regsvr32 msscript.ocx
regsvr32 dispex.dll regsvr32 vbscript.dll regsvr32 scrrun.dllChecked it
without problem. " Open "Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types"Find
..JS extension and click on "advanced" Check and make sure the Application to
perform actionfield has this in it C:\WINDOWS\System32\WScript.exe "%1" %*
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
del /q "%SystemRoot%\System32\Catroot2\Edb.log
This command will force the catalog database to rebuild itself.
Start/Run - type CMD.
At the prompt, type the below commands (Press ENTER after each line)

net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc

Or
Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 wintrust.dll
anybody have a solution?Thanks,Ray

Hello Ray,

I have been experiencing the same problem for a while and am still
unable to solve it.... Still searching so keep me in mind when
you find the solution.

I have a workaround however.
The problem only occurs when I try to download patches to a networked
drive.
It doesn't happen when I download to a local drive (ex. C:\)
This involves an extra copy but at least the job gets done.

Hope this helps.

Take care
Raynald

Raynald,

How did you download to networked drive? Windows update will not ask where
to put the update file in the course of update and it will do it
automatically.
