Failure to install 3 updates

On two separate computers both running XP Pro I have downloaded two .net
urgent updates and a Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services Client with
Service Pack 1 but they all fail to install.

The updates are:
1) Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services Client with Service Pack 1
2) Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1
(KB886903)
3) Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.0 SP3, English
(KB886906)

The error messages vary but are of the form "SLxxx.tmp has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Note that my second computer is a recent complete new install of XP Pro with
all updates that installed without error until these last three.

Anyone got any ideas? Is this a common problem?

I tried to install updates this morning and got the same error on the Rights
Management Services Client with SP 1.
