I have only once been able to install Windows updates, several months ago,
after much effort and messing around. For the past few months, it doesn't
want to work again.
I can successfully download all of the updates, but each and every one of
them fails installation, whether I run them individually or in groups.
The installation window reads as follows:
Updates were unable to be successfully installed
The following updates were not installed:
(updates listed)
Once I close that window, I get taken to the results page, where I get the
following summary.

problem description.
Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being
downloaded or installed.
Solution: To fix the problem, try installing the updates again. If that
doesn't work, use the Troubleshooter to try solve the problem.
I have the relevant webpages marked as trusted zone and all security
settings are low or disabled. The troubleshooting guide is not that helpful
and I don't have any error codes or further information to work off. I have
terminated various programs on my Acer laptop and still nothing wants to
install.
