I was transferring a huge file two days ago from an external drive to my
laptop and an old-school metal fan fell right on my computer.
Immediately I got an I/O error. Then I restarted and got the black
recovery screen. I do have recovery disks, so put that in...I get an
error message 0x80070091 and it says the file is corrupt and to run
chkdks. the recovery starts (choose keyboard layout, select OS) and
then enters directly into startup repair and then goes and goes and goes
and never stops.
So I (after a day, restarted)...I was able to get into recovery mode
with a dos prompt. I went to the directory/files which are corrupt to
delete, but get an error message saying the directory isn't empty and
won't let me delete. I did chkdsk\r and it worked through some issues
in the beginning and then hung.
I just restarted again and am back in the recovery chkdsk but can't get
to a dos prompt or the screen to select recovery options.
What should I do??...besides move the fan.
