fast shutdown

I installed internet explorer 6.0 and service pack from windows update, i
have windows me and now the monitor shuts down but everything else stays on:
keyboard, mouse, hard drive, no end message or sound. I know the problem is
in IE6 but what to do? Thanks.

It's unlikely that the problem is in IE - more likely that you have
something else running that you're not aware of (that doesn't play well with
IE6)
You may have a virus/spyware hijack

download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC

- update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files.

Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove variants of the
CoolWebSearch hijacker.
