Favicons and Vista

Using Windows XP, I could copy a favicon.ico from Temporary Internet Files,
paste it into another folder and rename it. I could then use it to
personalize the Links Toolbar in IE or Firefox. I have not been able to find
a way to do this in Vista. I cannot locate them in TIF. (I'm aware of the
FavOrg utility but would prefer to do this manually).

Does anyone know how to do this?

Hi,
You should be able to locate Favicons in the Temporary Internet Files folder
from...
Internet Options> General> Browsing history> Settings> View files. Select
Details view then click on the Type column header. That should group all
icons together in the list.

After applying the icon to an internet shortcut, you should make that
shortcut "Read only" in an attempt to prevent IE7 from applying the site's
favicon. This may be irrelevant if you've applied the site's favicon as a
custom icon. ;-)

Hope this helps,

Thank you for the reply Don.

Yes, that's the way I did it with XP but, for me, it doesn't work with
Vista. They are not showing up in Temporary Internet Files.

I know I must be overlooking something simple. That's usually the way it is
with me :-).

Hi,
Try clearing the TIF and History. Set the TIF folder to a size smaller that
100 MB. Browse for a while and see if favicons appear in the TIF folder.
