alright, here is my ideas for the the new wave of windows live messenger.
i'll introdue them in time peroids, as withn features I'd like to see added
to the product.

Late september/ early-mid October 2007:

--Windows Live messenger 8.5 final
--- have 64 bit support for this and ALL the windows live programs.

January 2008:

Start the beta for Windows Live messenger 2008. verson 9.0
--Start off with connect

March 2008

If all goes well, have the plubic beta start in this month

added Features:

1. Tab chats
2. Removal of ads (both contact list and message windows)
3. Better formatting tools (more colors, present fonts in "live" formatt. so
we can see what the font looks like)
3. Removal of winks. they are down right anoying.
4. Add new emicions. i was at a microsoft canada site and they had all new
ones that you can download. these should be added in. these are getting real
old, and we are in a desprate need for an upgarade
5. Option to turn off certin features. i for one don't use the PC-PC
calling, games or the actvity features. so an option to turn them off would
be great.
6. customazed tool bars.
7. Removal of the tabs on contact list.
8. Faster folder sharing rates
9. Add a "windows live photo gallery tool" to messenger. here, users can
share photographs LIVE and have an option to download the photo them selfs.
10. update windows live today. The Weather always shows new york and i dont
live in there. how about an option to open up a mod. verson of home.live.com?
also, have the option to turn this off.

Summer 2008

If all goes well, launch the final verson of live messenger 2008 verson 9.0.
8.5 could be verson 2008, but 9.0 will start beta and launch in 2008, so it
only makes sence. if you want to stick with the years, 8.0 might as well have
come out in 2008....

Fall 2008

Start a internal beta of windows Live messenger 10th anniversary edtion.
This verson will launch around the time the first verson of msn launched in
1999. the new 10th verson will launch in 2009. the New verson would need to
start early (buliding it in the beta of 9.0) reason would be for it to be a
major relase. Perhaps bulit from the ground up. this of course will celbrate
messengers 10th birthday.

December 2008/January 2009
-
Start a connect beta

March 2009

start a plubic beta if all goes well

July 2009

if everything goes well launch the 10th verson on July 22. I did research
and july 22 2009 will be a thrusday.

Features in the 10th verson would have to be hold off, till i see the
features in the 9th.

oh and another thing...

make the add ons part of gallery.live.com. get rid of the 3rd party ones and
make all the downloads FREE!

why sould i pay for a background for the same price as the stuff on the
dollor menu at mc donalds? these things should be free, dont charge us for
stuff that we can get for free anyway. (google)

Some of these are good ideas. See below for more comments:

This can currently be done with Messenger Plus! but I definitely agree with
the idea. I'm sure Patchou would consider a licensing deal to use his
implementation.

> 2. Removal of ads (both contact list and message windows)

I doubt this will happen, although I would love it if a subscription service
to WL was offered that turned them off.

> 3. Better formatting tools (more colors, present fonts in "live" formatt. so

I would definitely like to see a full color palette dialog available, not
just the small selection of 8-bit colors.

> 3. Removal of winks. they are down right annoying.

I agree, but I am content with being able to turn them off unless I click on
them (currently an option).

Everyone always like seeing new emoticons.

I wrote about 5 and 6 in my feature request thread too. Nice to see others
like the suggestion!

> 7. Removal of the tabs on contact list.

You can already do this in Options.

> 8. Faster folder sharing rates

You can accomplish this any number of ways, not the least of which is proper
configuration of your firewall and router devices. Consult the Help files for
more details on this. They're actually very helpful on this topic.

This is a good idea, especially as a way of furthering WL integration of
services. It can be paired with WL Spaces. Just be sure to allow the feature
to be disabled for those who don't want it.

I never use WL Today, but I would bet that it can be customized already, to
some degree.

Since my thread was hijacked by a troll, I will repost my suggestions here as
well to consolidate the ideas for discussion:

----------------

1. Why is the “classic” menu space still used when classic menus are hidden?
Just ditch it completely and be like Windows Media Player 11’s interface. I
like to put my messenger windows at the top of the window, and I can’t do
that since the classic menu “shifts” the window position down to give it
space.

2. Move the “Classic Menu” button to the far left along with item #1, and
that will accommodate those of us who like to use the classic menus but want
the new interface.

3. Let us customize the toolbars… I never use Call (Phone), Activities,
Games or Block, and I don’t use Winks or Backgrounds either… give me the
chance to turn off those buttons that I never use, so I can reclaim some
window space! (Scrolling menus are just an annoying UI design!

4. Why after all these years can I not right click in the conversation
window and choose “Clear Conversation” to reset it to a clean window?

5. Finally, why are the colors so washed out on the conversation windows
while the main list window is so bold? Personally, I prefer the bold, but
either way– BE CONSISTENT!!! Pick the washed out style or pick the bold style!

Details can be seen here:

tool. You said so your self, you didnt like someone hijacking your thread,
and yet you did the same to mine. but i'll let that go

I apoloigize if you feel I did so, but I don't believe commenting
supportively on your thread and keeping my suggestions consistent with yours
is hijacking.

I also would like to add. a simple sign out/log off button. This will be up
top of the contact list and/or message window and will alow users to click it
and have one lcick access to log off. include the "are you sure..." diolog
box with an otpion to turn it on/off.
