After installing SP2, everything worked fine except Windows Update, which
just ran until it finally timed out after about 20 mins with an error message
of 0x8DDD0009. Once Windows Update was started, if Itried to exit the
program the screen locked up, the only way out was ctrl, alt, del. I have
finally resolved my problem, uninstalled and reinstalled SP2 for the third
time, and now all of my software is up-to-date and working great again. The
following are the key points that I learned from this ordeal: 1) Make sure
all programs are updated, even programs you don't use before you try to
install SP2. If any programs (in my case Microsoft Money 2002) cause any
problems during the installation of SP2, do a system restore. repair/update
and possibly consider deleting the program. Once a program causes problems
during the SP2 installation it can not be ignored. The problem program must
be fixed before SP2 will install 100% correctly. 2) Do not install SP2 via
autoupdate and especially don't even think about trying it if you only have a
dialup Internet connection. The easiest and most successful way to install
SP2 is to copy the SP2 update file from a disk to the computer, move the file
to the desk top, and close all programs. Once you double click on the file
and the installation process starts, absolutely do not stop or interrupt the
process and do not try to do anything on the computer until the installation
is complete. 3) Shut down all auto processes in your antivirus program (in my
case Norton Antivirus 2004 Professional) before you attempt to install SP2 so
that the antivirus program does not cause any interruptions during the
installation. Good luck!
