When I goto Associate a file type for a specific extension, it has i
associated to Wordpad when it should be Excel. However, I am not abl
to change it as the "Always Use the selected program to open" is graye
out and I can't get it be selectable. How do I do it so I can associat
the file type to always for Excel.

Please advise

Hello Nolan

You should be able to use Method Three in the tutorial below in Defaul
Programs to assign the file extension to always be opened by Excel

Hope this helps

Method 2 or 3 do not work...it keeps defaulting to Wordpad and "Alway
Use the selected program to open" is grayed out.

I simply cannot get it to work.

If I right click on file and goto Open with Excel, it will not open...i
I do the same and open with Wordpad it opens the file.

Any other solutions.

What is the file extension that you are trying to associate to Excel

Are you able to open the file extension from within Excel

Currently, it is association .XLS to Wordpad.

In Excel, I can File -> Open the .XLS file..

See if reinstalling Excel to do a repair install of it may let it fix
itself.

Did you try to use "default programs" >>> associate file types?
