I've recently installed a graphics application (ACDSee Pro) under vista
ultimate. During the installation I have the option of setting up
associations for the program. This is done via the standard vista files
association interface. The default installation basically associates ALL
graphic file with the application - including icons.
The pronlem is that I cannot remove certain file types from the association
list (they are all greyed out). Furthermore, after installation, the same
problem occures if I attempt to re-associate file types through the vista
file asociation interface.
The end result that certain program icons now show the ACDSee icon insted of
the program's associated icon. I have contacted the software company about
this problem and they insist it is a vista problem - maybee something to do
with permissions that prevents me from changing file associations.
My system is set up with a single user who is also the administrator, but
still I cannot manually remove existing associations - I can only add new
ones!
Clearly, I cannot associate a particular program to icon files as they are
merely graphic representations of the programs they are linked to. So I
can't, for example, have all .ico files associated with a particular program.
The strange thing is that although my program icons have all changed to the
ACDSee icon, the repective programs still open correctly.
Any ideas on this one?
