File associations in Vista

I cannot change my file association setting for .FLA programs in Vista.
Everytime I choose .FLA select change program and highlight
C:\Macromedia\flash\flash.exe it allows me to select it, but it doen not come
up as an option on the file association screen. I have read file association
discussions here and cannot solve problem. I have a website and the flash
part does not show up. When I try save as in macromedia flash 8 file
associates with adobe acrobat reader. I went to a link:

I had the same problem, but with Xemacs
The problem comes from reinstalling the same programs to differen
folders. Basically, Vista stores the path of programs you register fo
certain file associations. When you reinstall a program with the sam
name executable but with a different path, Vista gets confused. Here'
how to fix it

1. Open regedit.ex
2. In the left window pane, expand the tree view to

Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\<your application executabl
name>\shell\open\comman

<your application name> should be replaced with the name of you
application. For me it was xemacs.ex

3. In the right window pane, double click (Default). Where you see th
path to your program, you'll notice that the path is wrong. It will b
the old path, where your program USED to be
4. Open Windows Explorer, and go to where the executable of you
program is located. Copy the path in the Windows Explorer address ba
5. Back in regedit, paste over the incorrect path using the path yo
copied from Windows Explorer. Make sure you only replace the path, an
not anything extra that happens to be in the Value data text box. (ie
be careful not to erase any quotation marks, or "%1", or anything els
you see there
6. Press OK, close regedit, and you should be done
