I have a HP m7780n media center PC with Windows Vista Premium Home edition.
Few days ago the the DVDs stopped playing in the DVD drive. After spending
several hours with HP support, the only option was to restore the system to
tis factory settings. So, I used the sytem restore and it reformatted my
Windows drive and reinstalled all the factory software, thinking I will
recover all the files from my backup. I backup my files every Saturday and
the last backup was on 7/28 and before that on 7/21.
I have been trying to recover my old files using advance restore and using
option that the backup was made on the other computer. I can see the last
backup on 7/28/07 in the select backup set to restore but when click on
'Next' I get the error 'There is a problem with the backup catalog. Restore
from a different backup or create a new, full backup. (0X810000E5)
On my backup drive I can see all the previous backups but in the catalog
folder there is only one Global catalog file, last modified on 7/28/07. There
seems to be an error with this file.
If the backup on 7/28 was corrupted then I can restore files from 7/21 but I
do not see that option the the select backup set window. I would like to
avoid restoring files manually.
Please advice how to restore my files.
