Windows Backup Tool failed and now my Drive D: has only 598MB open.

Watched as Tool copied files from C: and wrote toE:, put on second Dvd when
asked, copied from D: and wrote toE:. Got Backup failed message. Did not see
Backup Failed Notice on Hp Advisor as it was behind Tools Window.

From Event Log:
12/26/07 10:51:47 AM File Backup Has Started. Backup Location: E:\. Event ID
4097
12/26/27 11:38:54 AM File Backup Failed. The error is: Access is denied
(0x8007005). Event ID 4104

Nothing was written to my DVD's and as I said above my Drive D: is low.

HP Support solution is to go into D: Restore as administrator and remove the
folder with my computer's name because it contained the Backup files. Change
security, change security. No such folder exists.

There is a folder called System Volume Information that was modified 12/26/07'
Among others, contains two files and an empty folder created 12/26/07.
Empty Folder SSp created 1:51 PM
File {38088766-c176-4e48-b7ae-04046e6cc752} created 10:55AM 64KB
File
{624e06e1-b3c2-11de-854f-00038a000015}{38088766-c176-4e48-b7ae-04046e6cc752}
created 1:30 PM 300MB

Would these be the be the missing Backup Files?

Is there a location were I can find out what files are supposed to be in
Drive D:?

Make sure you have your folder view set to show hidden files and folders.
The B/U program on my Acer creates a hidden folder called erData on my D:
drive. I'm betting yours is doing something similar if not the same.

DarkSentinel, thanks for reply.

Showing all files anf folders, even unchecked hide protected system files so
I should be seeing all files. Had to add admin access to some of them. I am
sure that the ones I have listed are my backup files., but they are listed as
System Files.
and I just want to double check before removing them.

Still trying to figure out why wrote to D: instead of E:.

Thanks again DLSayremn

No problem..

More than likely it is hard coded to do that. The Acer eRecovery stuff is
like that. Mine shipped withed a 400GB SATA, and it knows there is a D:
partition is close as I can figure. It doesn't give me the option to change
it, so that is what I am assuming. However my system also shipped with a
product from DTI, which DOES give me the option, along with the usual Vista
programs. Best advice. Use what suits you best.

DarkSentinel, again thanks.
Wound up CHEATING. Got my daughter's laptop which has Vista and checked her
D: to see what I had that she didn't. Her System Volume Information (200KB)
folder has only five files. Will delete the ones I suspect (if Vista lets me)
and see what happens. Still don't know why wrote to D:, instead of E:. HP
site says that I-Tunes program could cause problems. Will check into that.

again thanks, dlsayremn
