File/folder cannot be shared

Hi,
I am a new vista user and have set up two users on our pc. Even though I
have designated certain folders to be shared and added the 2nd user on the
security tab I cannot access the files and folders when logged on as the
second user. What else do I need to do?

My stab in the dark would be check to make sure that you have set up groups,
permissions for the groups etc and put those users into the groups.

If you are only going to have a couple of people on the computer and only
sharing a couple of folders, printers etc you could simply right click on
each thing you are sharing, and under security give that user account
permission to use the shared item.

Like I said, just my stab in the dark without knowing what OS you are running.

It sounds like these are 2 users on the same machine - right? If so, sharing
is not what you need. On Windows, "sharing" is used to specifically refer
to sharing a folder across the network. Making a folder sharable doesn't
necessarily mean that other users on the SAME computer can use it.

When you right-click on a folder in Explorer, and choose Sharing and
Security, there is a tab marked "Sharing" and a tab marked "Security".
Ignore the Sharing tab. To grant access to other users of the same computer,
you need to go to the Security tab, and make sure the 2nd user has been
granted permissions there.

(Shared folders are protected by 2 levels of security: there are permions on
teh network share - what you set under Sharing, Permissions - and then
permissions on the underlying NTFS fle ststem, which you set under the
Security tab. NTFS security taskes precedence: if a user has access
permissions to the Share, but not to the underlying files, they will still
get an Access Denied error, when they try to access the folder).
