File 'ownership'

I bought a Toshiba laptop recently with Vista Home Premium on it.

All my previous OS experience was with W2K or older.

I need to have fax capability, and Vista Home doesn't.
I installed several fax clients to try, but continue to have a
problem.

One says it can't create the TIFF file that will become the fax.
The other says it doesn't have permission to use the file.

I figure there are 3 potential solutions,
and I wonder which youse guys would choose.

A) Figure out how to set Vista to NOT F^&K with the permissions.

B) Switch to XP, where programs just work better?

C) Switch to Vista Ultimate with it's built-in fax capability?
IF C, could I just install over Home Premium?

Will try that, but not holding my breath.

Tried that, no luck, AND no reply from support after 4 days.

Other was RKS (formerly MightyFax).
Have exchanged several emails with them, and may be onto something.

Just not familiar with the permissions thing, an MS is no help at all.

I just put sensible lies into the form and used a throwaway hotmail address
to get the free demo...
