I am operating on an intel, vista - reduced functionality. i'm trying to
install xp. when i boot off of an xp installation cd, it checks for
compatibility and then states: the file ql12160.sys is corrupt.

Some forum sites suggest to flash the bios.

Thanks.

I do not want to dual boot vista and xp. do you know what this error means
and how i can fix it so that i can install xp over vista. I am operating on
vista reduced functionality from a trial period, and it does not have much
functionality.

Joe, go into your BIOS at startup(F2, DEL), or the BOOT Menu?(F12), and make
your CD/DVD Drive to boot first in the boot order.

Have your XP disk in the drive, reboot, load XP files, delete Vista
partition, format, install XP.

Are all the XP Drivers available for your computer?

I have done this and while loading XP files, about 3-5 minutes into it, it
stated once that the file ql12160.sys is corrupt, and another time that the
file cdfs.sys is corrupt. What do you mean by "Are all the XP Drivers
available for your computer?"

Could this be an optical drive problem? this installation disc has worked on
other computers.

thanks.

Yes. Failure to install an operating system (a symptom of which is getting
errors like yours) is usually due to:

1. Bad install disk (you've already tested this so you know this isn't the
cause)

2. Bad optical drive

3. Bad RAM

4. Bad hard drive.
