Will Messenger have the feature to resume broken downloads in future? It must
be one of the features I've never understood why it hasn't been added. Yahoo
has had this since 1999 I think, and it's very helpful when you want to send
big files and then suddenly the connection drops...

Also will you ever give end users more information on file transfers like
current transfer speed? And estimated time remaining? The current system
seems a bit dated

This question is a bit off-topic to the main question, but will you ever
change the Messenger sounds? They're so old and out of date, you need some
new ones to put life into message recieved, if Live Messenger is a new thing
for Messenger you should do that!

I remember them saying on the MessengerSays blog that they have had loads of
feedback saying that people want to resume downloads. They also say that they
may include this but they aren't sure.

P.S the blog entry was a while back, so you'll have to browse for it.

Greetings Lucy,

The file transfer resume has been a personal request for years, unfortunately it's been
turned down with every release. The "Sharing Folders" functionality however, does support
resume.

Oddly enough there were a few new sounds in some of the beta releases which never made it to
the final (for Windows Live Messenger anyway). I definitely hope 9.0 spawns some new ones,
although I've long since turned them off to maintain my own sanity.

Thanks for the reply Jonathan *high five*, I never knew you could resume
files with sharing folders. I always had that turned off, I didn't know if
everyone can see what i'm sharing with everyone else... I will give it ago
now knowing that you can resume though.

I also totally know what you mean about the sounds, in desperation I changed
my sounds to ICQ which I never use, so I get that "Uh oh" sound, but thats
driving me up the wall now...

I will look for that post on that blog thankyou Jordan.

Hi,

The "uh oh" brings back a lot of memories for me, but that would drive to insanity even
faster.

It needs to be something light and short methinks.
