"The file you selected is not a valid image file. Please choose another file."

I find one of the most frustratingly irritating things about Microsoft
software is that it constantly nags the user to upgrade. Maybe not as bad as
Adobe (but then Adobe has gone completely off the rails in terms of software
quality anyway), but still very annoying, which is what has put me in this
situation.

The funny thing about patching working software is more often than not it
will actually break the software, which is why it should be so seldom done,
rather than almost weekly as seems to be the case with The LIVE IM.

Anyway, every time I try to assign my user an image after the last update, I
get the message "The file you selected is not a valid image file. Please
choose another file.". THat would be good and all, except the definition of a
JPG has obviously changed between these two versions. i only have JPG files
to test with and none of them will work now. All my images fire up i a
graphic application and the image I was using for my profile 15 minutes ago
will no longer work since the update. What could I possibly have done wrong
(other than follow MS advice and update to this splendid version)?

Okay, I've removed Messenger, restarted the computer, reinstalled messenger
from the web site. Same problem. Disabled direct draw acceleration,
re-enabled it. Installed Messenger Live Plus.

I've tried BMP files, JPG files, and GIF files. For all I get "The file you
selected is not a valid image file". As the problem exists only after the
update, I can only conclude microsoft have completely assed up this release.
How do I access older builds?

The solution for this issue was located. THe problem was caused by Microsoft
in their recent update. To resolve the problem download a previous version of
Live Messenger and uninstall the update. I guess a better resolution would be
to use another companies software and start uninstalling more Microsoft
because it really is trash. I'll be trying out Yahoo Messenger this week.
Trillian is better again.

Do they not test their software?

Between this and the annoying "Do you want to receive messages to your
mobile device while you're offline" popping up all the time (my preferences
are already set to do so), I can't believe they would release something this
crappy, yet they're crowing about the beta of 8.5.

I would be embarrassed to be part of their team.
