I need some help for saving files and downloads I want to change the location
name.
That name that it is being saved in now is the old owner of the computer I
want to change that name. How do I go about doing this?

Thanks

First up (off topic), since this appears to be a 2nd-hand computer, I'd do a
fresh install of Windows.

You don't know what's been on it (in terms of viruses, malware etc), and
there's also an issue of the legitimate transfer of the licence for Vista.
Did you receive all the disks etc with this computer, along with the CD-Key
code (sticker is probably attached to the case, or with the
documentation/disk containers)

____________________________

Anyway back to the question.

Generally the 'save/download' location is set through whatever browser
you're using. e.g., in Firefox you go to Tools/Options, and in the "set
download location" section it gives options to save to a particular folder
all the time, or it can be set so it will prompt you where to save the file.
Other browsers would have similar options.

I expect it's the same with office suite or similar such application like
Open Office or MS Office. Usually the save routine (where saving a file
for the first time) will prompt you to save where you want to, and it might
default to the "last saved in" location, or to a specified folder as set
through that application's options. In any case I'm sure it's not actually
something you can set in Vista itself.

If this is not the sort of thing you're asking about, can you be more
specific?

I know the person very well that gave it to me...I have no programs or disks
that he gave me with the computer...so therefore I can't re-install windows
right?

I want to change the users name cause where it is being saved now it's under
the old owners name ex:C\Users\Jeff....I want to change that to read my
name...

I believe you are referring to creating a new user account. That needs to
be done from an Administrator level account; follow this tutorial:

Scorpio,

Have you tried looking through the options for the particular application
you have this issue with, to see if there's a "default file location"
setting you can change? For example:

--- In Firefox for example you go to Options > Tools and change the download
folder there.

--- In MS Word 2007 you go to Word Options > Save and change the default
file location for saving Word docs, and I expect it's similar for earlier
MS Word releases). The procedure would be similar for each application you
use.

You can also delete the old user account since you're not using it that
should at least get rid of the older user's folders. If the above doesn't
work, I'm out of suggestions.
