Wiping system files from your hard drive won't speed anything up, just free
up some space and it could screw up something else.

You can go into Services and disable any of the eHome stuff that may be
running at startup, depending on what is running, that may speed up your
system some.

It is unlikely that the MC stuff has much to do with the speed of the system
(unless something is very messed up), more likely you have other problems --
perhaps virus/malware.

If you system is running slow with XP, it may be too underpowered for
Windows 7.

If you look at performance in Task Manager are there any processes that are
consuming a lot of CPU time that you don't need running?
Do you defrag your disk regularly?
Do you have any internet based applications constantly updating information
on your system?

my install of MCE has only 46-48 processes running... currently
thunderbird e'mail being the largest at 78,936 kb, then explorer 38,140
kb, then svchost 24,492 kb... the next is my avguard 12,304 kb...

i have updated the 5 year old Toshiba Qosmio laptop to Windows XP
service pack 3... my hard drive is consistently over 69% free space...
and has the maximum 1 gb of ram...

i'm in the habit of defragmenting every few days... as things slow to a
crawl...

my two most used programs are seesmic desktop... an adobe air based
twitter client... and firefox... which isn't currently running... but
starting FF uses 53,552 kb...

i don't see any extraordinary numbers here... until i start seesmic
which begins at 138,900 kb...

but the computer is slow without that running at all...

any ideas... short of a new computer?

Can you also check the total and processes CPU usage %s and see if there is
a problem with one of them hogging your system?
