Files don't show over network

From one Vista (SP1) to another Vista (SP1). I have some files on the
remote computer under Public\David\..., but they don't all show up. I go
to the remote computer, they're all there. I go back to my local Vista
computer and look over the network to my remote Vista computer, it says
the directory is empty. But I know the directory is NOT empty. Why can't
I see my files? I check file attributes, nothing unusual, not hidden,
not read-only, just plain ordinary files. Why can't I see them over the
network?

Sometimes only some of the files show up over the network. I've learned
I can't rely on viewing files over the network to see what's there. I
have to physically go over to that remote computer and check it there.
Vista just doesn't work.
