Files on DVD-RW not seen by Vista

Hi All

I'm hoping someone knows the answer to this problem - it is frustrating
me to the extent that I am thinking of going back to XP.

On my Vista Home Premium setup this happens. I have some video files
on a DVD-RW (.VRO from my DVD recorder in my home cinema system). I put
the DVD into my writer and it says that the disc is full but it does not
show any files. It just treats the disc as a DVD-RW and gets ready to
write files to disc.

If I put the same disc into my XP laptop, it sees the files on disc
just fine. So I installed a virtual XP PC onto the Vista PC and would
you believe it, it reads the files. So it is definitely not a hardware
problem. Why oh why can Vista not see the files?

I think the fix in 'When you insert a CD or a DVD, Windows Vista may not
recognize the disc' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939052/en-us) might
be the one. I have a number of audio devices, and I may have one
disabled.

The problem is not one with finding hardware. The DVD-RW is there and
works fine for other things. Just certain types of DVD appear blank in
Vista, but one can see their content in XP.

Tried this but no luck. The problem is still the same. I can see the
VRO file on the DVD-RW with my XP Virtual machine, but Vista just says
the disc is blank. If anyone has any more ideas, they would be
greatfully received.
