This error message has an auto register and reinstall feature, when used it
indicates 100% completed, but when you try to update it repeats the same
message. I have looked at the suggested solution, but it doesn't apply since
I did not reinstall XP. I am running Xp Pro sp2. Please excuse me if I
overlooked the solution in this thread. I am trying to install sp3.

Some have reported that simply re-registering the MSXML3.DLL seems to fix the problem.
1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type: regsvr32 MSXML3.DLL
Press okay

If that hasn't helped you may need to re-registered some more files:

1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type (pressing okay after each one) :-

net stop wuauserv

Repeat for the following:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

net start wuauserv

I received the follwing message on the first option "return code 0x80070005
specified module cannot be found" on the second option I received the message
"failed Return Code was 0x80070005" I did a search for this return code and
several placies indicated it was a permisson problem and ran diagnostics
which passed, but the problem remains. Any more ideas. I appreciate the help.
