HELP!

I am getting the dreaded:
"Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed
on your computer"

I have done all of the rereg'ing that has been recommended here and have had
no luck. I have reinstalled the XML parser, the windows update file and most
everything else I can think of. I have even done a repair installation and a
concurrent installation of XP. The new concurrent version updates just fine.
The repaired install still does not work. At this point, I'd like to rip out
the entire
Update system and re-install from scratch.

Any help would be VERY appreciated.

The windows update log file is shown below.

Have you tried re-installing Windows Update files

http://download.windowsupdate.com/v6...gent20-x86.exe

Note If you have an x64-based computer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v6...gent20-x64.exe

Click Save in the File Download-Security Warning dialog box, and then select the location where you
want to save the file.
Double-click the file that you saved

Note "Install is not needed since Windows Update Agent is already installed.", run the exe with the
command line switch /wuforce, like this:
WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce

Tried that, and did everything else. Still no help.

It looks like wuaueng.dll is messed up or the proc calling the COM interface
has problems. I have replaced the dll, multiple times, and still no luck. Do
you have any more ideas? I run IIS and not having the latest security updates
makes me VERY uneasy.

Hoser,

Suggest you contact MS and open a case:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...spx?gprid=6527

Support is free. If you're in the US, so is the phone call.

Hi all,

I think I got the solution. Well I tried it on my laptop and it seems to
have solved the problem. Please let me know it works for you.

Ok. Here goes. First of all are you using panda? If so you need to download
a patch.
Panda plantinum
http://www.pandasoftware.com.support...na=2&pagina=16

Panda Titanium
http://www.pandasoftware.com.support...na=2&pagina=16

If your are not using Panda then try this

Delete the contents of the Datastore folder

Stop the Automatic Updates Service

Click start
Choose run
In the Run box, type services.msc
Click OK
Right-click the Automatic Updates Services
Click Stop
Stopping the service with take a moment
Delete the contents of the Datastore folder
Click Start
Choose Run
In the Run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
Click OK
Open the Datastore folder
Delete all contents of the Datastore folder
Close the window
start the Automatic Updates service
Click Start
Choose Run
In the Run box, type services.msc
click OK
Right-click the Automatic Update Services
Click Start
starting the service will take a moment.

Hope this helps.
