Files safe to delete in Windows Vista

In Windows XP we had files that could be safely deleted. These were the
contents of the "C:\Documents and Settings\User\LocalSettings\Temp" and"
C:\Documents and Settings\User\LocalSettings\Temporary Internet Files" and
maybe even the "C:\windows\prefetch" (though probably unnecessary) folders.

What about in Windows Vista? LocalSettings and the directory seems to have
changed. There are now folders like Local, LocalLow and Roaming. Where are
the folder whose contents are safe to delete? Here is a list that I don't
know of it is safe to delete or not.

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp
C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Windows\Logs
C:\perflogs

Please note that these above listed are for Vista.

I would really appreciate of you can tell me whether the listed folder above
are Safe to Delete. Also if there are any other files or folders that I don't
know about that is safe to delete.

Regards,

Mike

Yes, but I recommend you do it through the Disk Cleanup utility and ensure
that you do not delete things like Office Installation files if you don't
have immediate access to your Office installation disk.

Hello Mike,

With Vista Premium I use the Disk Cleanup utility.

Also
Go to Start > Run, enter %temp% and click on OK Delete all the files that
you find there.
Go to Start > Run, enter %windir%\temp and click on OK Delete all the files
that you find there.
Go to Start > Run, enter %systemroot%\temp and click on OK Delete all the
files that you find there.
Go to Start > Run, enter prefetch and click on OK Delete all the files that
you find there.

Clean the cache for Internet Explorer, cookies, etc etc.

And final
Use Ccleaner <http://www.ccleaner.com>
If Windows Defender is utilized go to Applications, under Utilities uncheck
"Windows Defender".

Tip: Mr.G recommend using the default checked boxes and running Advanced
maybe once a month or so
It is fine to have things ticked in SYSTEM, but it would not be advisable to
tick anything in Advanced unless you are sure what you are doing.
CCleaner Beginner's Guide

On the left side, click on the Contentes menu for more information.

I never have any trouble

Good luck

I wouldn't delete the prefetch info. That is used by Windows to help it
load files faster by keeping track of how they are read (not all files
are read sequentially.)
