Hello,

I have a WSUS3 SP2 on a Windows 2003R2.
For many hotfixs, I have this message :

"The files for this update have not yet been downloaded".

My server is updated directly from Windows update server and the hotfix are
auto approved. No events on windows.

I don't undertstand why the files are not downloaded and applied. Can I
force the download?

Thanks for your help

Neither do we. You've not really given us anything to work from.

Could be that your auto-approval rule isn't working, and there's nothing to
download.

Could be that your downloads are failing.

Not if there's nothing to download, and Not if the downloads are already
failing.

1. What's displayed on the main screen of the WSUS console with regards to
download status?

2. What, if anything, is logged in the Application Event Log of the WSUS
server?

I once had a fortigate (UTM appliance filtering traffic) borking out on
wsus downloads. This caused the connection to reset (and hence abort the
download).

I, too, have this message on many security updates: "The files for this
update have not yet been downloaded"

I appreciate your response, but would you have any suggestions on what else
to say regarding this problem?

New installation. Default approval rule has been run.
There is nothing noted in any of the Event Viewer logs about anything amiss.

The updates are approved, but they haven't been downloaded. I would
conclude that the auto-approval rule is working.

Some of the updates are downloaded. Some of them are not.

Thanks for any help!

No.... not without more information!

> Default approval rule has been run.

Please describe what you mean by this statement. There is no "default auto
approval rule".
There is a default "Auto-approval rule", but merely enabling it will only
ensure subsequent Critical/Security updates are approved.
In the event you mean you used the "Run Rule Now" function after enabling
the rule, then that allows us to presume that there are Approved updates,
but doesn't tell us anything about the status of downloads.

Then there's no reason to believe the system is working incorrectly.

What Update(s) actually have an Approved status and show no files
downloaded?

> Some of the updates are downloaded. Some of them are not.

Now there's some more information. Which updates are downloaded; which are
not?

What does the Main Page of the WSUS Administration Console have to say about
the Download Status of the server?

Okay . . . my response to you is pretty much the same as the other poster.

What is the status reported on the Main Page of the console in the Download
Status section.

What, if anything, is logged in the Application Event Log.
