For anyone who may be experiencing a failure to sync beginning around mid
March, this may be of interest to you. The follwoing is a reply email to
Chris De Herrera who attempted to help me with my problem, which I ended up
figuring out partly on my own:
I disabled the tried all that you suggested, including calling Sprint. They
could not fix the problem. I installed ActiveSync 4.1 and 4.2 (Beta Preview)
to no avail. As I mentioned, I tried your suggestion as mentioned in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=909444. By the way, this article assumes
that you do NOT have “Use simple file sharing” option turned on, although
simple file sharing is recommended by Microsoft and the default OS
configuration as far as I can tell. This did not work, so I tried to remove
the Windows Security Update 902400, but was not allowed to. Anyway, my
system indicated that (902400) was installed on my system back in November
2005, well before I even purchased my PPC-6700 Pocket PC, in late December
and I was able to use ActiveSync from then up until about March 18. So I
looked and noticed that on March 19, several Microsoft Security Updates were
automatically installed – I’ll never make that “auto install” mistake again.
Although it was a month plus long hassle, I did however resolve the problem
myself by removing all of the Windows security updates that were installed
since the day my system stopped synching. The ones that were installed on
that fateful day included: Security Update for Excel 2002 (KB905755),
Security Update for Outlook 2002 (KB905649), Security Update for Word 2002
(KB905754), and Update for Office XP (KB913471). After uninstalling all of
these, I was then able to uninstall 902400. And I still was not able to
sync. So I uninstalled 4.2 (Beta Preview) and reinstalled it and then I was
finally able to sync. My biggest complaint, and one that I cannot forgive
Microsoft for, is that they disabled one of their own products with their
security update and still do not have a clue about the cause or how to fix
it. From my web searches no one seems to have a solution to the problem that
hundreds are suffering from. Please keep up your good work and I hope that
this information will help you to inform others.
Dear ActiveSync development team:
I have copied you on this message because I though that as part of 4.2 you
could overcome the failure to sync problem that I and many others are facing
and that the 4.2 (Beta Preview) alone did not fix. The only problem I am
having now is an unresolved file that the “Resolve items” option does not
seem to be able to resolve. When I click on “1 unresolved item” I am not
told does not always tell me which file it is, but when it did I deleted the
file from my PPC or “remove” it from the list of synch files, I was then told
that another file was unresolved. I repeatedly see a file named HTML and one
named TML. I did manually delete a directory named HTML with many files in
from my PPC. Hope this helps. As I was typing this, I used a program named
Resco File Explorer to empty the recycle bin on my PPC and this fixed my only
remaining problem, which I just reported. I do not know how to empty the
recycle bin without this third party software – perhaps someone could tell me.
Hi,
Did you try disabling any software firewall you have installed? Did delete
any old partnership on the PC after upgrading the firmware?
BTW You can call Sprint for support since they sell the 6700 and ActiveSync.

Subject: PPC-6700 woes
I have a PPC-6700 and was able to use ActiveSync until about 1 month ago.
A connection is made and the ActiveSync on the PC says Connected, the
Looking for Changes, and then Synchronizing. The PPC only reports Connected.
Both just sit there and “spin” away, with nothing happening.
So Sprint just replaced my PPC-6700 with a brand new one.
Unfortunately I was unable to sync with the new phone as well.
However, I was able to use ActiveSync to upgrade the firmware to version 2.06.
It seems odd to me that the firmware would upgrade but that I cannot sync
with my PC.
I have tried everything I can think of including security the security for
the %windir%\registration folder.
HELP ME! You are my only hope.
