am running vista 64 bit and using firefiox as my browser. Firefox asked me
to upgrade to its most reent version 3.5.2 and now firefox will not open. I
know others that are running it with 32 bit vista-is it possible tha my 64
bit version is the probem?

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate x64 on several systems with FireFox
3.5.2 with no problem - so the answer to your query is, "No."

Navigate to the folder
C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\ Profiles\<randomname>.default
and delete the contents (copy them to a backup folder first to be safe)
..
Then relaunch Firefox. It should recreate the defaults. Once you have it
working, you can restore your saved settings one by one to see what breaks
it.

In my case Norton Internet Security was the problem. Contacting tech
support at Symantec, I was given a link for a patch that solved the
compatibility problem. Firefox 3.5.2. opens just fine now.

Would you mind sharing the name of the patch you downloaded (filename, link
to a document on the Symantec web page, etc...)?

Mercy, Shenan, I didn't save the link location. This was several days
ago. As I recall, I went to Help & Support in NIS, typed "firefox
fails to open' in the Search box, and noted a link for "Firefox
Compatibility." Then envoked the Chat Now button for a live tech
support person who gave me the link for the patch.

HTH,
