I've been running Firefox 3 Beta 5 for a few weeks on Vista Home Premium.
Just yesterday I started to get a message saying that Firefox couldn't be
started because it was already running. Kill the process or reboot. Upon
investigation in the Task Manager, Firefox is not running as an application
or process? Any ideas? This problem recently started.

You're running a BETA product in a POS operating system like Vista? And
you're surprised that you're having problems? LOL!

You probably should uninstall the beta and install Firefox 2.0.0.14.

I can't go back since V3 has features I would miss! In any even it's been
running perfectly until yesterday. I believe something else happened in my
system; something probably got corrupted. I forgot to mention that I just
installed Comodo Firewall Pro and it's pretty aggressive. If nothing obvious
is mentioned, I'll just restore to a previous state with Acronis True Image
in which Firefox ran without issues (pre Comodo). I was hoping that these
symptoms might point to something obvious.

I had this same issue because FF could not find the profile directory.

Run profile manager and see where it is pointing to.

This is a firefox issue. Ask on their forums for support.

BTW, What lenster said also had happened to me so it is worth looking into.

Good idea about the FF forum. I'll check out the profile issue next time the
problem occurs. I've restored now so everything is happy once again. Thanks
for the ideas

If Firefox beta will not start, and you see the process in the "Process"
view, it is safe to kill the firefox.exe process. One killed it will
restart. I usually pick a new session when it restarts.

The strnge thing is that it doesn not show up in the Task Manager process
view so there is nothing to kill.

You Should Instead Try Running It On Open Source Linux Ubuntu 7.10 Release 2
Web, And/Or Open Source Linux Ubuntu 8.04 Long Term Support Official Release
Candidate, Both Are Located At http://www.ubuntu.com/, An Open Source Web
Browser Works Much Better With An Open Source Operating System, Also Just FYI.
