I'm trying to setup the firewall to prompt for action whenever a program
tries to access the internet, the same way that Zone Alarm does but I cannot
find that option. Is there a way for me to do this?

Thanks for any help.

The functionality doesn't come built-in. You'd basically need to write your
own program to achieve it.

I believe that some of the firewalls available for Vista that are front-ends
to the Vista firewall, so you might get some suggestions with regard to
that.

It does seem to be avg related. Have a read through this thread and see if
it helps.

AVG causes message to pop up
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/in...594&forumid=23

Also checking within the avg program's options might another port of call, I
would suggest.

If you can't find the option to configure it and it bugs you then uninstall
avg, use System Restore back to point prior to its installation, and try
another free antivirus such as Avast.

There are two interfaces for Vistas built-in firewall:

1) A simplified one accessed through the Control Panel that is the only
one most people see. Sphinx's Vista Firewall Control
http://sphinx-soft.com/Vista/) is a piece of freeware that makes the
Vista Firewall much more useful to the average user.

2) And the more advanced "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security
(WF.msc), accessed via the Start Menu's Administrative Tools folder, for
the experienced user who wants better control.

Yes, it comes, but it is hidden, and they way to activate and to
administrate it is complicated. The freeware add-ons only do the
process to activate and to administrate it a lot easier.

If you want to set up, I strongly recommend you to use one the
freeware admin tools that Bruce posted in his message to this thread.
