OK, so I thought I'd better play with this new 'wonder-product' that MS have
produced and see what-all it can do for me that MSN 7.5 can't.....
so set up a virgin VPC XP Pro SP2, and first thing that gets installed is
MSN7.5 just to check all is well - no problem, account is recognised, and
contacts list is fine (all 500-odd of them)
Next - install WLM....
no problem with the installation, thinks I....
try connecting - all attempts fail for 20 minutes, and finally one is OK -
but I'm told that my contacts list is empty! (and there's a "Due to a
connection problem, changes you make...." warning)
So - check the connection in the Tools|Options|Connection wizard, and it
tells me that everything is hunky-dory. (WTF??)
and life goes on.... every now and then, a new contact appears in the window
(Duh?).....but only for online contacts (which is still only a maximum of
25 - less than half of the actual number I confirm by switching to 7.5 in
the host PC, and logging on there.... damn! takes me 20 minutes to log back
into WLM
at this point I realise that I've forgotten that this VPC is so 'virgin'
that it's not even been updated - so install the updates and reboot
Still another 20 minutes to connect , and no contacts, effectively
Try importing my contact list into WLM - the wizard tells me that emails are
being sent to all my new contacts (new? this is the same account I was just
using 30 minutes ago in the host!)..... but when I attempt to use one of
said contacts (who I'm chatting to on another account from the host, in
7.5), it tells me 1) he's off line and 2) he's not on my contact list!!
WTF?
I can (just about) reliably get a connection (after 5 minutes) if I use
another account with only 3 contacts - so is this an account restriction of
some kind, or what???
Any ideas? before I turn round and kick the thing where it it's begging to
get kicked?
