First impressions SP1

System spec:
Toshiba Satellite L40 18Z
Intel duo core T2330 1.6 GHz
1 GB RAM (upgrading to 2GB imminently)
Vista Home Premium with Office 2007
80 GB HDD
Avast! AV which I disabled before the install

Windows Update downloaded 66 MB of update, and the install took about 1 hr
15 minutes, with one reboot.

Machine started up with no problems.

Prior to SP1, the RAM usage was always at about 90-95% and the CPU usage
seemed to be quite a lot.
After SP1, RAM usage seems to be down to about 70% and the CPU usage is a
lot less.
Before SP1, IE used to take a while to load a new blank tab, and to exit
with a number of tabs open. After SP1, new blank tabs load almost
instantaneously, and exiting seems to be very much more snappy.
Office applications also seem to load much more quickly.
The C: drive prior to SP1 had 19.1 GB free out of 37 - after SP1 it now has
22.1 GB free.

So far then a good experience...

I want to see what it is going to do for the graphic driver problems I have
been having, we will see.

Not such a good experience here. After my 65.5 MB update was finished I had
no sound. Before the update I had a Realtek High Definition Audio Device,
which I had been keeping up to date with new Realtek driver releases, after
the update the only audio device I had listed was my Bluetooth Headset.

I downloaded the latest Realtek drivers and ran the setup but when Vista
rebooted the Found New Hardware wizard ran and installed a High Definition
Audio Device with Microsoft drivers from 2006.

Since then every attempt to install either Realtek drivers or updated
Microsoft drivers ends in failure. Even uninstalling the device only results
in the same 2006 drivers being reinstalled.

As it's only my laptop that is affected I am not too bothered but I would
still like to try and find out what happened.

Interesting. I also have a Realtek High Definition Audio Device, for which I
have NOT installed any updates notified to me by Windows Update. The
installation of SP1 didn't affect it...

I hadn't used Windows Update to update the Realtek drivers before, prefering
to download them from the Realtek site. A little googling found this but as
yet I haven't found a way to reinstall the Realtek drivers and the Microsoft
advice at the end of this article doesn't work either.

What i do , when i update my realtek hd drivers:
i desactivate "realtek high defintion audio"(right click on it) in the
device manager
i uninstall the realtek audio drivers, i dont reboot, i install the new
Relatek drivers
i reboot and to be sure i am checking all the drivers have the same version
numbers
than the ones in the realtek's "read me" text file.
i had done that with vista and i updated yesterday to sp1 without any worry

Nor did it here. In fact, I watched a DVD afterwards. Whole thing from start
of download took maybe 35-40 mins, with the d/l taking the longest because
of the traffic. Installed quickly, rebooted, and no problems detected.
