Hi folks,
I'm a new Windows Vista user. I wasn't too happy with the product at first,
but after a few days of "customizations," I got it to work the way I like
it. One area I had trouble with was wireless networking (with another PC,
running Windows XP). I could never get it to work reliably in the "wireless"
mode, so I gave up and wired it direct to my router. Vista claims it's easy
to network computers, but I had FITS doing it. There's NOTHING "easy" about
it.
One thing I don't like is the UAC (user access control). I found out how to
turn it off, and then I was happy. But I installed an application (Real
Rhapsody) that required it to be on, otherwise it would write files to the
registry, upon startup, and then have to be restarted EVERY time! So I had
to turn on UAC again.
Another feature that seems to be missing is the folder icon (with an "up
arrow" in it) when you're using Windows Explorer, or browsing any folder for
that matter. The old folder icon (with the "up arrow") allowed you to move
back a level in the file directory. Now you have to do it either in the
content window, or in the "miniature version" of Windows Explorer that's
displayed in every folder you are browsing.
Another annoying feature (or lack thereof) is the ability to add "custom"
commands to the folder menu; like cut, copy, paste, and delete. If anyone
knows how to add those commands, let me know. Thanks!
It looks like this will be a popular newsgroup. It's only a few days old, to
the best of my knowledge.
Happy computing, everyone!
Bob
