Fix for error message; can't open page that's already open?

I get the message "Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site" for a
page that I've been happily reading for 20-30 seconds. I click OK to exit the
error and the page blanks to show the standard cannot open page error. All
this despite the fact I was halfway through the article that IE7 apparently
can't load.

The page seems to have loaded fine, although it may still be downloading
adverts/background furniture. Currently, I press Back and get the page I was
looking at with no sign of the message. But that's not a proper fix.

The error has started this morning, never been seen by me after 2 months of
Vista Beta and IE7. It has happened five/six times on random webpages viewed
over an office network connection, I've already disabled my wireless to see
if it was switching networks. Any ideas on how to stop this annoying
behaviour?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Gofee:

More than likely Internet Explorer is responding to something that is
still trying to load while you are reading the page. And yes, it's quite
possibly an advertisement.

You don't have the problem when you use the Back button because you are
seeing a cached copy of the web page that doesn't contain the ad.

There could be many causes for this issue, among them:
1 - The web server sending the content is not able to send, because of
its own problems.
2 - Your security software is blocking the content.

Thanks for replying, I understand most of your answer. However, since its
random sites causing the error, I don't see their host servers being a
problem, unless they all use a common ad server.

On the security side, I'm using the LiveOne Beta - I keep seeing the
firewall status changes messages whenever I switch networks but see no
warnings about content blocking. I'd hope I would see a message from that
before IE tells me about it.

Since this has just started happening, I wondered if anyone else is getting
it. Possibly as the result of an ad-farm being DDoSed into oblivion? Either
way I don't think IE7 has improved much on IE6 in the quality of error
reporting, shame.

Hi Gofee:

A little add-on by way of explanation:

These days many web pages are cobbled together with content from several
different servers. If 'random sites' all get ads from the same web
server, and that server is not delivering, those random web sites will
all exhibit the same behavior.

But it's equally likely that your security software is just trying to do
its job.

Something else to keep in mind: IE 7 is a much more locked down browser
than IE 6, and not all web sites are with the program yet.
