Fix for Mouse lockups in MS Word 2007 (in Vista)

*Trouble:* Unable to mouse-click (left or right) anywhere in the
document window area of Microsoft Word 2007.

*Product:* MS Office 2007, SP1 MSO (12.0.6213.1000)

*OS: *Windows Vista Ultimate

*Trouble caused by:* Adobe Contribute CS3 OfficePlugin.dll (COM
Add-in)

*Solution:*

*Step 1 *- *confirm add-on is truly the issue* - ensure MS Word 2007
is not currently running, if running close it; - click Windows 'Start'
icon; - in the "Start Search" text field box type "run" (without
quotes); - hit the enter key on the keyboard; the Run window should now
come up; - in the "Open" text field type: "winword /a" without the
quotes and click the "OK" button; Word 2007 will now open without
loading any add-ons; test typing, highlighting, left and right mouse
button clicking in the document area; if the problem is related to the
Contribute add-on the problem will have disappeared; - close MS Word
2007;

*Step 2 -* *edit the registry to prevent Adobe Contribute plugin from
loading *- ;- click Windows 'Start' icon; - in the "Start Search" text
field box type "run" (without quotes); - hit the enter key on the
keyboard; the Run window should now come up; - in the "Open" text field
type: "regedit" without the quotes and click the "OK" button; - the
Windows Registry Editor will now open; - Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\ Addins ;- click on the
folder labeled "Adobe.Contribute.OfficePlugin"; - in the right hand pane
which should have refreshed there should be a few icons - locate the one
that says "LoadBehavior" and right click on it; - select "Modify..." in
the menu that appears; - a new window will pop up titled "Edit DWORD
(32-bit) Value" Under "Value Data" there should be the digit 3 in a text
field - simply change that 3 to a 0 (zero) digit and click the "OK"
button; close the Registry Editor;

*Step 3 - Validate the problem is solved *- Go to "Start" find "MS
Word 2007" and relaunch the program; - test typing, highlighting and
left and right clicking - the problem should now be resolved.

If the problem persists another Addin may be the problem and the same
method above can be used to turn off all other addin LoadBehavior values
to 0 (zero) the digit which should eventually resolve the original
problem and restore Word to proper functioning.

I had this problem myself and took a while to find the solution. Enjoy

Thank you very much, I managed to solve this problem following your
instructions. With my computer it was 'SnagItOfficeAddin.connect' the
problem. Wished I had read your advice before uninstalling and
reinstalling Office 2007 and still have the same problem.
Many thanks.

I solved my "mouse not highlighting text" problem by eliminating all o
the adds-ins as desribed above. However, when I close Word (2007, Vist
Business) I receive an error message that says "Microsoft Office Wor
has stopped working." The system then closes and reopens Word.

This seems to indicate that there is some other underlying problem wit
the add-ins that is not corrected by the fix described above. An
thoughts?

this is fantastic...even though Adobe was not the culprit, and SnagIt
was, changing from 3 to 0 to disable was just the ticket. Thanks so
much for the helpful advice!
