Fix for Security update .NET Framework vers. 2.0 did not work-now

Please help. I did as directed below for the Security Update for Microsoft
..NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB917283) and this did not work.

"Go into control panel-Add/remove programs-Click Net
Version 2.0-Click Change and a repair option appears-repair/restart and
download will install"

Any other suggestions?

Repairing, restarting, and retrying to install KB917283 didn’t work for me
either.

\Download the "dotnetfx_cleanup_tool", Run it, and use the spin box to remove Microsoft .NET
Framework 2.0. Leave version 1 alone. After it uninstalls and reboots, go to Windows Update
and it will show that Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 needs to be installed. After that, the
update for it (KB917283) will install correctly. Another pain in the ass from Microsoft. You
would think the error message would TELL you that 2.0 is not working right...

Glitched her on that update too
so i just uninstalled .net2.0 from add/remove
went to windows/downloads and reinstalled it
followed by a trip to update.microsoft which installed the 17283 off my hdd
pretty simple but time wasting

Yes, and you would have thought the tech would have said to _uninstall_ 2.0
instead of just _repairing_ it. Sometimes I wonder if Gates thinks he’s
getting his moneysworth . . . or cares.

Did that as well, and it still won't insall the update.

Ok so I uninstalled from add/remove programs, booted and went to update and
nothing came up about net framwork 2.0. Where do I find version 2.0?

Yep, same thing happened to me. First, look in the Windows/Microsoft
Net/Framework folder. The uninstall did a sloppy job and only removed stuff
from the registry. It didn't remove _any_ of the v2.0 files or the folder.
Delete these.
Go to the Microsoft Support and Help and do a search from the Search box
for: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0: x86 (KB829019)

Download that to wherever you normally download stuff and click on the saved
file to install. Reboot. If you have automatic updates on it will
automatically inform you of the new security pack we have had so much trouble
installing. Otherwise just click on Windows or Microsoft Updates and it will
come up eventually. _This_ time when you try to install it, it will work.

BTW generally, I just go to Protonics.Com for technical support. The only
reason I didn’t try them this time is because the update has only just come
out. So I figured they wouldn’t have had time to find out about the problem.
