I newly installed the OS and went to run the updates. The Background transfer
update was successful but after rebooting the system I could no longer d/l
the updates. I did some searching on the error(80246005) and found a
suggested fix however the error code it referred to wasn't the same but I
thought I'd give it a try. It was successful and the updates worked. I
rebooted and went to d/l SP2 but again the problem happened. By doing the
same steps again the update was successful. Here are the steps:
Click start-> run
type services.msc then press enter
Look for the Automatic Updates Service, right click it and choose to stop
Click start->run
type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution then press enter
Open the DataStorage folder and delete its contents.
Click start->run
type services.msc
right click the Automatic Update Service and choose to start
Now try running the Updates again.

If you are unsure, cut and paste the contents of the datastorage folderto
another location so that you can copy them back if need be. I can't guarantee
this will work for everyone but its worth a shot.

Thanks man! It worked beautifully. Do you know why it works? And if there's a
way to fix it more permanently?
