Fixing .dot Net installer mess

Do I need to reinstall dot.net 2.0? Do I need to uninstall dot.net 1 or
1.1?

I think I have dot.net v1.1, with a failed attempt to update to dot.net
2.0. I have TWO mscorlib.dll files. One says v1.0.3705.6018 -- which is
for dot.NET v1.0
SP3. The other says v1.1.4322.2032, which is for dot.NET v1.1 SP1.
In the folder called "v2.0.50727, there is no *.dll file. There is a
mscorlib.tlb file. When I click on properties, it says it is a *.dll file.
But it shows up as a *.tlb file.
So I know I've got at least dot.NET v1.1 Sp1.

Because of the funny looking files inside the 2.0.50727 folder, it looks
like dot.NET v2 didn't install completely. My computer is doing fine, and
the few applications that need dot.NET are working well.

QUESTION: Is it okay to have two mscorlib.dll files? Do I need to
uninstall the dot.NET v1.0?

QUESTION: Can I leave well enough alone, or should I persist in
getting dot.NET v2 installed?

The .NET Framework downloads are mutually exclusive; think of the visual
basic runtimes - you needed all of them. Same with .NET

There is: dotnetfx10 and dotnetfx10sp2 and dotnetfx10sp3
Then there is: dotnetfx11 and dotnetfx11sp1
Then there is: dotnetfx20
Finally there is: dotnetfx30

Have fun.

I'm not quite sure I understand -- mutually exclusive means one, but not the
others; yet your explanation implies that I should have all three.

You should have 4 versions

1.0 sp3
1.1 sp1
2.0
3.0

2.0 does not upgrade 1.1., etc.
You made need some, all, or none of the runtimes, depending on what
applications you run.

They are all stand alone versions. As an example version 2.0 does not upgrade version 1.0. and so on.

All stand-alone versions? What kind of sense is that? I

I seem to be doing fine with v1.1; able to use the few applications that
require it. I guess I'll just ignore it v2; too bad it didn't install
correctly, hough; now I'm stuck with a bunch of files that I apparently
cannot use.
