Flaw with Vista ... but nobody seems to care

Just as in ...
http://forums.techarena.in/showpost....09&postcount=2

... I suffered under this problem. I had 'just' installed Vista Home
Premium several days ago, and in the ensuing days, familiarized myself
with it ... along with installing my personal programs.

One time I clicked on Recycle bin and noticed several 'garbage'
files/icons/etc. there that I had deleted ... so I thought of doing the
'first ever' Disk cleanup routine via Vista.

BIG MISTAKE !!!!

During the process, seem to recall seeing, along with the normal
recycle bin, temporary files and other normal Disk Cleanup
files/folders being listed, one called something with 'error reporting
files'. Not to know any better, I clicked on it, and all others, to
delete.

Again .... BIG MISTAKE !!!!

After the process, nothing ... saying again NOTHING worked regarding
personal installed files ... and other Vista processes were EXTREMELY
slow. After some time, having just installed Vista, I sent a Help
needed email describing the problem and received notification number of
receipt.

Over the next couple of days, the tech overseas in India tried to help
with no success; and finally admitted she was forwarding it to a higher
up Indian technician.

Well, that tech sent me a basic boiler plate out-sourced response of,
basically, 'it's not our problem' ..... in other words, "don't bother
us".

But being persistent, and in tune with her closing comment regarding
possibly helping me to do a clean install with my upgrade disk, which I
did, I then re-traced my steps ... and today have once again come across
the culprit.

Basically, what I call a 'glitch' in Vista.

Prior to this, I also posted to the Microsoft forum section for MVP's
... and in a word or 2, got the same type of response ... just worded
nicer.

So, here I sit ... along with the other poster of above, with a flaw in
Vista and no interest if forthcoming from Microsoft. Looks like the
public will just have to suffer the trauma as I and he did....... a
NIGHTMARE.

In my case I have tracked it down to a specific utility program I "was"
using ... as is likely the same with the other poster ... albeit, likely
different programs or processes.

So to any MVP, or Microsoft employee, any comments. I'd like to help
MSN, but the reponses so far fail to impress.

You state: "In my case I have tracked it down to a specific utility program I "was"
using..."

So the third-party "utility program" was the root cause of your
Windows Vista corruption? How does that equate to a "flaw"
in Vista?

=====================================
What was the name of the file ("called something
with 'error reporting files") that caused the problem
and what is the name of the utility program that
sent it to the recycle bin?

What you told the MVP was completely inadequate and unhelpful.

You did not give any specifics in the thread you referenced.

"a specific utility program"
Exactly what program?
Is it a Microsoft utility designed for Windows Vista?
If not and it is 3rd party, when you were told "not our problem", you
were probably given the correct answer.

What did the creator of the utility say when you asked them?

Although Microsoft VPs will blame problems on your program the fact is that
Vista, the Microsoft OS that took more than 5 years to come out, ends up
being incompatible with otherwise mainstream programs and has a structure
for which most OEMs have difficutly writing drivers.
This not Microsoft's fault how?

I was trying to be politically correct by not naming the program; but
since asked, presume it to be OK. It is Uniblue Suite which is a 3
mode of registry cleaner, spy catcher and speed booster. If I mistated
something regarding MS's flaw, then perhaps I stand correct by stating
it is a shared flaw since on Uniblue's site, they reflect they are a
Microsoft Gold Certified Partner ... which sounds to me that perhaps
both are culpible.

Today, after fighting with the process now for several days, I totally
redid everything, first clean install of Vista, and then one by one my
programs. After each, I did the Clean Disk again until, with Uniblue,
the aforementioned ... precisely named files ... "Per User Windows
Error Reporting Files" ... and one other of almost the same name, with
one word being different ... can't recall it now due to having removed
Uniblue by doing a Restore process just prior to it's installation.
Sorry.

Hope this helps those of you that responded. All of this information
mentioned above was provided to the Indian technican, in explicit
detail, and was not apparently used to track down the problem.

And again, the other poster to this forum also advised he had sustained
the same problem. There may have been other postings to the net; but
when I did my Google and came across this one, did not go any further.

Registry cleaners, by and large, often will break more than they fix by
deleting registry entries that are needed either by the OS, certain entries
for programs the cleaner doesn't recognize (and assumes aren't needed), or
often; both.

Many of the reviews on Windows Marketplace actually report this software as
slowing their systems down instead of speeding it up . . . usually when a
program makes claims like this they aren't being totally genuine . . . I'm
remembering all the "RAM Defragmenters" and "Memory Boost" type programs
that were popular, and useless, back in the mid-nineties . . . "Speed up
your computer! Better memory management with memory defragmentation . . .
will make your computer up to 100% faster!" It was all smoke and mirrors
that usually hurt performance by adding a useless TSR to your system, eating
up the very RAM it was supposed to be optimizing.

"Microsoft Gold Certified Partner"
That refers to the organization and nothing about specific programs
they write.

Have you checked with the program manufacturer about Windows Vista
compatibility?
Are there any applicable updates to the program?

Speed boosters...usually don't since there are potential bottlenecks
beyond software.
Often they slow the process down if anything.

spy catcher...If it is good and reputable...

Registry cleaners...Use them with caution. Never use on unless you
have a full understanding how it works.
Also be sure to use the registry cleaners included back up feature so
if there are problems (like you encountered) you can quickly undo
them.
My guess this component caused your problems.
Also you should never let a registry cleaner delete anything unless
you know exactly what it does and why it is not needed.
Do not rely on the registry cleaner for that information.
Most suggest not using a registry cleaner because of issues like yours
and also because benefits are little to nonexistent.

I have never used the above program.
But from what you say, I never will.
2 of 3 components I see absolutely no value and even see some
liability.
