Flight Simulator X crashes at splash screen

I installed FSX on vista. I've got an AMD dual core 4600 processor and
2gig of ram. I also have an nvidea Geforce 7600. When I run the game
(either with or without admin and/or XP compatibility) it shows the
splash screen (I think is what it's called) and it loads the scenery
files (to 100%) and then has another window sorting out the scenery
database, but it reaches 100% then gives "Microsoft Flight Simulator X
needs to close".

My nvidea drivers were updated yesterday, as I thought they might be
causing the issue.

I'd really like to think I haven't wasted time and money with this, so
please help [Smile]

Thanks.

Try updated your graphics drivers and download any updates for the game. If
that doesn't work try launching it as an administrator and/or using the
compatibility settings that come with windows vista

I've heard of a lot of people having issues with the latest
NVidia drivers. Rolling back to the previous release fixes a lot of it.
I'm still on XP, but I've been using 169.21 of the nVidia drivers from
2007, and they work great. Try grabbing that version (if still
available), removing all installed nVidia video drivers, and install
that.

G'Day PlasterCast,

Make no mistake - FSX is hungry. I had similar problems until I upped my
card to a 9600 GT - and it could do with a still faster card.

[Go to Control Panel>Performance Information, and 'Update my score'.

FSX requires a minimum of score 3, and 5 is recommended.]

Even with that card, I got my first Vista BSOD ever with the 190.62 Drivers.
The 191.07 seem ok.

You might try re-installing FSX - if necessary removing it with Windows
Installer Clean Up (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/290301).

When FSX runs well, it is EXCELLENT - so good luck
