(I am an amateur at this.)
I had the files on my old hard drive put into my new hard drive. The
technician put them in the folder called "Old Data". I am unable to retrieve
them. The message says "go to folder options and assign a program". When i go
to folder options I don't have a clue what to do. Please help!( It is Window
Me operating system.)

I don't know diddly about Windows ME, which you should immediately junk in
favor of XP, but can't you just copy the contents of the "Old Data" folder
to your hard drive? In other words, in Windows Explorer, open the Old Data
Folder and then go to Edit>Select All>Copy and then click on your C:\ drive
and go to Edit>Paste.

If you can't open the Old Data folder, then I don't know what you can do
except call this technician and have him fix this problem for you.

You should ask this question in a group dedicated to Windows ME
micorsoft.public.windowsme.general
is probably the best one - so I've crossposted this response there.

In the meantime - open Windows Explorer (My Computer)
On the menu bar at the top - click on Tools, then Folder Options
click on the View tab
UNcheck the entry 'Hide file extensions for known file types'
Click Apply, and OK
Now navigate to the file you want to open - what is the file extension?
Is the icon for the file the default icon, or a special one?
if you Right-click on the file, and select Properties, what does it say is
the program that the file opens with?

See you in the ME groups!
