Folder Redirection Problem

We are having a strange problem with one of our DFS Sites.

When they login to their computer their userhome share is mapped to
\\domain\remote instead of \\domain\remote\usrhome\usrname and it does not
redirect their my documents, but if they log off and log right back in, it
will work just fine.

This has been going on since January.

In the process of trouble shooting this we have added another remote site
and it works just fine. We have aslo upgraded a couple of the doamin
controlers to 2008 including the site that is having the problem in addition
to upgrading the physical hardware of the server.

We have verified the policies and all of the policies are correct and the
same.

At the main site there are 5 domain controlers with 1 at 2008. None of them
are in the DFS Namespace servers for this DFS Share. We have 2 servers at
this site that are in the DFS name space running 2003R2

We have 3 remote sites that all have 1 server there, and 1 remote site that
has 3 servers.
All of the remote sites execpt for one are in the DFS Name Space.
The Site that is having the problem only has 1 Domain Controler
2 of the servers are at 2008 and are at sites that only have one server at
them.

There is a project under way to finish upgrading to 2008 by Summer of 2009
but if would solve the issue it could be bumped up.

I know that it is not a 2008 issue as the problem started before the
upgrading started.

Any Ideas will be helpful

Rebooting the workstation does not help any as that resets the issue, and a
gpudate /force didn't make any changes either. It is occuring at this one
site.
A look at the group policy settings between this site that is having the
problem and a site that is not having the issue, but has the same files
through DFS shows no difrences. This is why I'm thinking that it is a DFS
issue but it could also be a timeout issue with the local server????

from the network (using a cached account) then the home folder gets set that
way. I have not investigated this much just noticed it and that connecting to
the network then logging on again fixes it. Also if the home folder in "made
available offline" the problem does not happen. This effect does not seem to be
related to DFS but a more general issue. I just wish that the home folder
mapping was retried by the system from time to time after logon if it has failed
to map.

Hello Thomas

I had a similar issue: The very first login after computer start would not
map to a DFS ressource.

I have overcome this issue by using FQDN instead of NetBIOS names.
